This gray, brown, celadon, and blue textile that was woven in the town of San Juan La Laguna from locally grown organic cotton. It was dyed with local plants. It is 15 inches wide and 74 inches long. The weaver's name is Isabel. She is a member of a cooperative in San Juan that works together to provide for their families. .
This piece could easily be used as a scarf or a table runner. It could be cut up to make great pillow covers, a table runner, jacket, etc. It is a gorgeous piece.
The last picture is of Filomena showing us how plants are used to make natural dyes in San Juan. I took weaving lessons from her daughter a couple of years ago. It's always so much fun to get together and visit!!

All the fabrics on this site are 100% cotton hand-dyed and hand-woven in Guatemala. The regular fabric is 36 inches wide. The fabric is not cut until you buy it. When you order multiple yards, you'll receive your fabric in a continuous piece.
Since these fabrics are hand woven there might be slight imperfections. These are characteristics that make the fabric stand out from machine made fabrics.
The corte pieces are different widths. The width of each one is in the description.
Fabrics should be prewashed before sewing with them. Edges of the fabric should be zigzagged to prevent fraying. Fabrics should be washed with the fixative, Retayne, to fix the color. Please follow the instructions on the bottle of Retayne. Remove fabric from the machine right after the final spin cycle. Dry in the dryer until damp dry using the coolest temperature. Fabric should then be hung up to finish drying.
Retayne can be ordered on-line from any number of sites such as Joanne’s or Amazon.
