This worsted weight yarn is a lovely blend of white romney wool and white mohair. The mohair comes from our own angora goats and the romney wool is from our own flock and the flock of a good friend.
The yarn is 60% romney wool and 40% mohair. The mohair will add shine, strength and wearability to the final fabric and give the garment a lovely halo over time. Romney wool is considered a longwool breed and wears well in outergarments. More than half of the wool in this yarn was lambswool and all of it was strikingly soft with high luster.
Our Farm Fresh base yarn is a natural cream color and these skeins were then kettle dyed or handpainted. We had a wonderful time in the dye kitchen with this blend, because the colors really "pop" over the natural cream.
This listing is for a kettle-dyed yarn in a soft teal/green. This color reminds me of the ocean, which is perfect for a Maine yarn, isn't it? (This is definitely more on the teal spectrum than the other green skeins listed in the colors of jade and spring grass.)
Romney wool was my first great love as a spinner. We are fortunate to have some amazing and lovely romney in Maine. The flock that provided this wool was no exception. Carefully chosen by their knitting shepherdess, they were selected and raised for excellent wool production. I am luck to have a few of these romneys myself, and their fleece is amazing. This wool blends with our mohair beautifully. The angora goats have had my heart for many years and were our first fiber animals. Their mohair is soft and wavy/curly and adds wonderful character to yarn.
These skeins are 4.4 ounces each and approximately 260 yards. This is a two ply yarn, created for us by the wonderful folks at Green Mountain Spinnery in Vermont, using historic New England carding and spinning equipment.
