GENERAL INFO & HELPFUL TIPS
Fit is important for ergonomic pens. I've developed my design to accommodate a wide range of needs, but not all pens will work for all people. The length, overall circumference, the thickness of the grip and the shaping around where the fingers and thumb rest will all impact your comfort. It's a good idea to compare the specifications of the pen you're considering with those of any of your favorite calligraphy pens.
If you see something you love but are concerned it might not be a good fit for you, contact me for a recommendation, or to order a custom pen. I don't charge additional fees for custom made pens, so you can get something fitted just for you for the same price if you're willing to wait for the manufacturing time. Custom fit pens can either be requested through Etsy, or purchased directly through my website: http://www.lindsey-hook.com/store/
Flange adjustment is also particularly important for ergonomic pens. I mount my flanges with a slight upward tilt and with an angle off the central axis of the pen of 25-30°. They can be adjusted to fit for you just like any non-ergonomic oblique pen. If you've never adjusted a flange, I highly recommend this instructional video from Dr. Joe Vitolo: https://youtu.be/eqF5-dKmViQ
Bullock flanges are semi-universal and can accommodate a wide range of nibs. They are opened and closed with a small screw. You should always open the flange to remove and insert nibs. When closing the flange, avoid tightening the screw more than just enough to firmly hold a nib in place. Over-tightening can damage your nib and strip the solder attaching the nut to the bottom of the flange. If you've never used a bullock flange, I highly recommend this instructional video from Chris Yoke of the Yoke Pen Company: https://youtu.be/QwqcVK5yVjk
