Unfamiliarly Familiar - inspiration: "The Arrival" by Shaun Tan. The Arrival is a wordless graphic novel showing the story of a man leaving his homeland to travel a new, very foreign land. --- This is illustrated primarily in sepia tones reminiscent of old photographs. I used a hint of sepia and paired it with the faded blue-grey that old photographs can have sometimes.
Sid - inspiration: "Six-Dinner Sid" by Inga Moore. Sid is a very clever cat who has managed to find six owners and, consequently, six dinners. --- I tried to incorporate Sid's different lives with the colors of his various bowls and beds.
Falling Brightness - inspiration: "The Brightest Fell" by Seanan McGuire. For once, everything in October “Toby” Daye’s life seems to be going right. Until her mother asks for her help in finding her sister, August, who was kidnapped years ago. --- I wanted to highlight the rich colors of the months that the women were named after; bold August sunshine with hints of October's autumn foliage.
Game's Escape - inspiration: "Escape from Mr. Lemoncello’s Library" by Chris Grabenstein. Luigi Lemoncello, the most notorious and creative gamemaker in the world, just so happens to be the genius behind the construction of the new town library. Lucky Kyle wins a coveted spot as one of twelve kids invited for an overnight sleepover in the library, hosted by Mr. Lemoncello and riddled with lots and lots of games. But when morning comes, the doors stay locked. --- Palest blue of a board game's background with vivid red & blue to represent game tokens.
Starlight for Children - inspiration: "The Girl Who Drank The Moon" by Kelly Barnhill. In the Protectorate, every man, woman, and child knows that the witch in the Forest demands a yearly sacrifice: the youngest child in the Protectorate on Sacrifice Day must be left in the forest for the witch to take. Only... it's not that simple. Xan, the witch in question, tends to the babies who are left behind. For example, when they were hungry, she reached up one hand and gathered starlight in her fingers, like the silken threads of spiders’ webs, and fed it to the child. --- I wanted to convey all the colors of the stars in the night sky.
Each mini-skein contains 100 yards with a total of 500 yards for the bundle. The large skeins in the pictures are closer views of how each color looks on its own.
