Thank you for your interest in our farmstead fiber products.
I love to prepare fibers by hand, so working with this special wool is a labor of love. This is an offer not only from me, but from our sheep too. I love hand spinning, knitting, crochet, and felting, thus almost fifteen years ago I became a shepherdess too! Today our flock of beautiful Icelandic sheep numbers 20 and growing! These lovely Batts are made from the fleece of this year’s stunning nearly pure black ewe lamb named Winnie (she’s registered). Your purchase from this Etsy shop helps the sheep on our farm get not just the basic care, but receive their much-deserved royal treatment too! Handwork is definitely a treat for me and I hope you’ll feel that way when you play with our fibers too!
I prepared these black batts by first hand washing and rinsing Winnie’s fleece with special wool soap and lavender oil. Then I hand carded light airy batts on my hand carder for you to use in your hand spinning or felting. These fluffy 100% wool supply preparations combine both the tog and the thel, the long fiber and the short downy soft fibers of the Icelandic sheep breed (These sheep are dual-coated — they grow not just one, but two fiber types!). If you haven’t tried felting, I’d recommend you try it with these easy-felting poufy batts — they work great to felt soap!
