Shipping is done via USPS 1st class mail in a normal letter or legal sized envelope so you only pay postage for the product, not unnecessary wrapping/padding or boxing.

How can we sell our seeds so inexpensively? We keep costs to a minimum by using less packaging and less printing. We absolutely LOVE tomatoes and save seed from tomatoes grown personally using a tried and true method of fermenting then drying the seed - this results in nearly 100% germination rate every year. Several varieties have been passed down from organic growers in and around the area and have been in our family for years! We only sell seed from tomatoes that produce well with minimal effort. Many varieties are suitable for container growing as well. If you're uncertain, just ask, we are happy to share our experience to make your tomato growing season a great one!

Growing your seeds:

We germinate our tomato seeds in late February or early March using vermiculite as the germinating medium. Seedlings emerge in approximately 7 to 10 days and are ready to be moved into growing medium once two true sets of leaves are established.

Seedlings are transplanted into a potting soil growing medium and remain under lights for 30 to 45 days then are moved to our greenhouse until ready to plant in the garden soil after all danger of frost is past.

The following is another method you might use:

Step-By-Step Seed Starting

Thoroughly moisten the seed-starting mix, and then fill the containers to within 1/2" of the top. Firm the mix but don't compact it.
Place two or three seeds into each small container or each cell of a seed starter. Cover the seed with about 1/4" of soil and gently firm it over the seeds.
Water to ensure good seed-to-mix contact. You can use a plant mister or just dribble a stream of water over the top. You don't need to soak the soil, just moisten the top layer.
Place the pots in a warm spot or on top of a heat mat. At this point, the seeds don't need light.
Keep the mix moist but not soaking wet. If your seed-starting system has a greenhouse top, use it to help hold moisture. Or, you can lay some plastic kitchen wrap over the tops of the pots.
Check pots daily. As soon as you see sprouts, remove the covering and place the pots in a sunny window or under grow lights, keeping the lights just an inch or two above the tops of the plants.

Once two true sets of leaves are present, seedlings may be transplanted into individual containers of a quality potting mix. Keep in a well-lit place maintaining consistent moisture. Plant in the garden after all danger of frost is past and after gradually "hardening off" the plants outdoors.
