Item details

The Dragonfly Days ebook knitting pattern collection includes patterns for three beautiful dragonfly-inspired lace accessories by Bonnie Sennott: the Cordulia Cowl, the Enallagma Shawl, and the Ischnura Shawl.

ABOUT ISCHNURA
Named after a genus of damselflies, the Ischnura Shawl is a warm and cozy cool weather accessory. Knit in bulky weight wool, this shawl is worked flat from the bottom up on a circular needle, beginning with the lace section. Short rows are used to shape the upper (garter stitch) section.

Finished (Blocked) Measurements:
72 inches/183 cm wide at top by 15.5 inches/39 cm deep at center

Materials:
--575 yds/525 m bulky weight yarn. Sample was knit with Brooklyn Tweed Quarry [100% Targhee-Columbia wool; 200yd/183m per 100 gr skein], color: Gypsum, 3 skeins.
--US #10/6.00mm 32-inch or 40-inch circular needle
--Stitch markers, tapestry needle

Gauge:
10 sts/16 rows = 4”/10 cm in lace pattern, after blocking
11 sts/18 rows = 4”/10 cm in garter stitch, after blocking

Instructions: Stitch patterns are provided in both charts and in written, line-by-line form.

ABOUT CORDULIA
Named after a genus of dragonflies, the Cordulia cowl is worked in the round on a circular needle and requires no grafting or seaming.

Finished (Blocked) Measurements:
34.5 inches/87 cm circumference by 8.75 inches/22 cm deep

Yardage: 295 yds/270 m DK weight yarn. Sample was knit with Foxhill Farm Cormo DK [100% wool; 308yd/282m per 3.5 oz skein], 1 skein.

The yarn for the sample was originally an undyed off-white color. I dyed it yellow using marigolds, with an alum mordant. I followed the natural dyeing recommendations in the book Wild Color by Jenny Dean.

Needles and Notions:
--US #5/3.75mm 24-inch circular
--Stitch markers, tapestry needle

Gauge: 21 sts/34 rows = 4”/10 cm in lace stitch, after blocking

Instructions: The stitch patterns are provided in both charts and written, line-by-line form.

ABOUT ENALLAGMA
Named after the pretty damselflies known as bluets, the Enallagma shawl combines eye-catching lace with restful garter stitch. The lace section is worked straight without shaping, then gradual decreases are worked along one side to create the shawl’s asymmetrical shape.

Finished (Blocked) Measurements:
23 inches/59 cm wide (cast-on edge) by 66.5 inches/169 cm long (straight edge)

Yardage:
600 yds/550 m DK weight yarn. Sample was knit with Wing & a Prayer Farm Thelma & Louise [50% wool, 50% mohair; 240yd/220m per 100 gram skein], 3 skeins.

Needles and Notions:
--US #7/4.50mm needles (for lace section)
--US #6/4.00mm needles (for decrease section)
--Stitch markers, tapestry needle, stainless steel T-pins, blocking wires or knit blockers (optional)

Gauge:
16 sts/24 rows = 4”/10 cm in lace stitch, on larger needle, after blocking
16 sts/28 rows = 4”/10 cm in garter stitch, on smaller needle, after blocking

Instructions: The stitch patterns are provided in both charts and written, line-by-line form.
