This is a very old kitchen tool for mashing or ricing primarily potatoes, I think. I really am not familiar with its function. It was made by Silver & Company of Brooklyn, N.Y. and was copyrighted in 1887. I cannot say exactly when this one was made, but I believe it to be antique. It is all metal. The handles and frame are heavy, perhaps iron, the removable basket a lighter metal. It is about 11 inches long overall. The basket is 3 1/2 inches in diameter and 3 1/8ths inches tall. The top handle is marked in raised letters: "SILVER & CO. NY." The lower handled is marked: "PAT.D.OCT. 18. 1887." The basket is stamped with the company trademark, the words "SILVER'S, TRADEMARK, BROOKLYN" within a circle and banner. It is in good vintage condition. It's not rusty; just looks like a typical old metal item. I am not sure I would actually use it. Perhaps after a proper cleaning, you would make that decision. But it is a fascinating kitchen tool.

Additional return information
If you are not happy with your purchase for any reason, we will accept returns for shop credit or exchange, but shipping both ways is on you! The only exception to this policy is if the item's condition is substantially different as that described. In that unlikely event, we would refund everything including return shipping. Any returned item must be received in the same condition as sent. Again, I am a reasonable person, so let me know if you have a problem with your item and I will talk with you to resolve the issue. It is the buyer's responsibility to document damaged shipments. Please provide photos of the box unopened if there is obvious damage to it. Also, take photos of the opened box, packing material, and, of course, of the item itself.
