Bocote Marking Knife (Handle Pictured only, blades made to order, Maple Knife pictured for demonstrations sake) Handmade Woodworking layout knife, with freehand turned Bronze Ferrule, and an O1 Tool Steel Blade of your choosing.
Available with either a Left Hand or Right Hand Single Bevel Blades (Craft Knife Profile), a Traditional Spear Point Blade, or a Double Bevel (Craft Knife Profile Blade)
Left and Right Blades have a razor sharp edge, and a tip that is convenient for reaching into the back of corners when transferring joinery layouts. their single bevel configurations allow you to stay flush to a vertical edge, for increased accuracy. 2 handles of the same species are available for a matching set. this blade profile can double as a high quality craft knife that can even be used for light carving tasks. Ideal for those that already have a traditional spear pointed marking knife in their kit.
Traditional Spear Pointed Blades are the most common marking knife profiles available, their main advantage is their ability to approach a work piece from either side while remaining flush to a vertical edge, and their one draw back is their lack of reach. An excellent all around marking knife option.
the double bevel craft knife uses the same craft knife profile as the left and right blades, but with a bevel ground on either side. As I grind each bevel to 30 degrees (for a combined angle of 60) this marking tool is more of an Awl than a knife. It's edge is not meant for cutting, but the robust tip leaves a clean and shallow layout line (because of the knife like profile, the tip cuts wood fibres instead of tearing them, unlike an awl), and barring major damage should not need regular sharpening.
