The yarn is 4 ply, 100% Beulah Speckled face sheep wool with great stitch definition. It is incredibly warm to wear, knits up like a Shetland type yarn and would be great for shawls, cowls and colourwork. The listing is for one 100g skein.
Our yarn is made from fleeces provided by a local Agricultural College and a Council run ecological project which runs sheep across the Surrey Hills, UK, to conserve the chalk downland habitat. The low value of sheep fibre has meant that these fleeces have been previously burnt, buried or discarded at cost. We rescued them and transformed them into something you can play with.
The yarn is hand kettle-dyed or painted in batches. We aim to photograph the yarn in natural light where possible to give you the best possibility of seeing the true colours but please bear in mind that photos don't always represent the actual colours. Due to the take-up of the dyes on this yarn base, some colourways have light and dark variations which we will show in the photos. Please leave a note as to which colour you would prefer. Any problems, contact us and we will endeavour to resolve any difficulties.
