“‘Sorelle Fontana’, the famous designing sisters of Rome, have come up with this marvelous design—cleverly cut to give an elegant softness of design. (The favorite neckline, neither too high nor too low, is wonderful for showing off your favorite beads.) Also, the intricate seams and midriff are so slimming. Note the loose floating panel topped by a long (purchased) chain pulled through a loop, giving a belt effect in the front.”
Fontana, the Italian fashion house, was found in Rome in 1944 by three sisters…Zoe, Micol, and Giovanna. They started in their mother’s tailoring business, moved around to other ateliers and, eventually, returned to Rome to open their own business designing and producing gowns for Roman aristocracy and many film stars. In 1960, Fontana designed its first ready-to-wear collection. It was incorporated as Sorelle Fontana Alta Moda SrL in 1985. Fontana was known for creating fantasy dresses and gowns. Clients were Linda Christian (wedding dress to marry Tyrone Power), Audrey Hepburn and Ava Gardner, who wore Fontana in ‘The Barefoot Contessa’, ‘The Sun Also Rises’, and ‘On the Beach’. Other clients included Margaret Truman, Elizabeth Taylor and Loretta Young.
All patterns are vintage items and sold…AS IS. Although I maintain a smoke-free and a pet-free studio, I have no control over where items have been previously. I attempt to represent my goods as honestly as possible, but sometimes something will get by. If you have any doubts about an item, E-MAIL ME! I want to make sure that you will be pleased with your purchase. I will make a refund as merchandise credit; buyer pays for return shipments.
Pattern comes in a zip 2 mil. plastic bag and is shipped in an envelope with a cardboard insert. The zip bag is great for storing the pattern!
Please note that I count the pattern pieces unless factory folded, assess the pattern’s condition and press the pattern as necessary. You will never purchase a pattern from me with “It looks like it's all there” or ‘Pieces need pressing’.
