PDF Vintage Classic School Jumpers 2-13 years Knitting Pattern
This pattern is pre-1970 and gives directions for a wide range of sizes for basic school jumpers as were worn by British children before the advent of sweatshirts!
Chest sizes range in six sizes from 22 inch to 32 inch and use from 4 oz (100 g) to 9 oz (225 g) of 4-ply fingering yarn with UK size 10 and 12 needles (US 3 and 2, metric 3.25mm and 2.75mm). For wearability and washability why not use 4-ply sock wool!
Shapings are straightforward; stitches used are regular K1, P1 rib and stocking (stockinette) stitch. The front, back and sleeves are worked separately then seamed together with the neck rib added last.
This basic pattern can be used as a starter and you can add fair-isle, stripes, gansey patterns, anything that comes into your head to create a jumper which will fit pre-adolescent children.
I discovered this pattern, well used, in my mother in laws' collection and I guess it was well used as it is in a fragile and creased state! I am very happy to share this with you and hope it will join your own classic collection.
Please respect my own copyright in this pattern, and do not share it. You may of course use it for your own knitting use.
