SOLD NO LONGER AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE Gorgeous Vintage Bakelite Buttons Burnt Orange Papaya Color With Shiny Flecks That Catch Light Floating Inside
I love the color of these buttons. The color is like ripe slices of papaya or the color of oranges that have been put under a broiler. You don’t see colors like this anymore.
I love how much detail went into a button in the old days. The experiments with early plastics were very interesting. Vintage plastic buttons are all quite unique. They were not mass produced back then and it is possible that you may never see the same button twice.
Sometimes you will see the thread from the previous garment still attached to the button, a sign that it had been snipped off after a garment had worn out. The buttons would’ve been saved because you wouldn’t dare throw out these gorgeous little works of art with the old clothes.
Most times an old dress or shirt would’ve been cut up for quilting squares and of course the buttons would be saved. Nothing was wasted in the old days and because things were so well made and cared for, we get to enjoy them still, today and pass them on to the next generation.
These buttons are in excellent condition. All of the vintage buttons I’m selling we're passed on to me by my dear friend, Alverda "Babe" Burg. Almost 30 years ago, she gave me her family heirloom button collection filled with buttons that had been collected and passed down from the civil war era to the 60's. I'm so honored to have been the keeper of such a treasure and rather than keep them stirs in a box, I am offering them up to you “Makers” in the world, so that these beauties can be seen and loved. Which is how my dear friend Babe made me feel. ❤️
