Set of 5 Retro Czech Glass Little Monster Buttons: 2 Orange, 2 Yellow, and 1 Lavender with Hand-Painted Details and Tiny Rhinestone Jewels

Condition: NOS (New Old Stock)* in perfect shape

Measurements: the little monsters are approximately 1 1/4" long by 1/2"
wide by 3/8" thick (3.18 x 1.27 x .95 cm); the brass shanks are about 1/8"
long (.32 cm)

I love Czech glass buttons, whether antique, vintage, retro, or the new reproductions being made using antique molds. The variety of beautiful designs and colors of glass seem endless. My favorites tend to be Victorian, Edwardian, Art Nouveau, or Art Deco. They make stunning focal pieces or clasps for jewelry, so I surprised myself when I bought this set of 5 "monster" buttons. What was I thinking? Actually, I thought their design is very imaginative, and they'e so ugly they're cute! The button faces seem to be grimacing and remind me of Hawaiian Tiki gods, but their hands look a little like hooves, and I can't decide if they're each holding a box or if they have elaborate belt buckles! I thought of making some type of toddler-size Halloween outfits, each featuring a unique little monster but, ultimately, I never could come up with a costume concept that pleased me. Eventually, reality set in and I realized that I'm far too busy with my jewelry and Japanese temari anyway, and I'll never get around to creating those costumes. It's time for someone else to love these little guys and find a special purpose for them!

*NOS, or "New Old Stock," refers to pieces that were manufactured and then warehoused but never sold, probably because a company was forced to close for some reason. These buttons came from a warehouse in the Czech Republic that had been abandoned since the 1960s, and it's our good fortune that someone discovered it and is sharing its contents!

FAQs

Handmade jewelry should be treated gently: do not shower or go swimming while wearing; polish with a soft damp cloth or a silver-polishing cloth; keep in a cool, dry place such as a soft bag or lined box; do not hang necklaces or bracelets--their weight can cause stringing materials to stretch or connecting rings to pull open. If damage does occur, please contact me to discuss repair or replacement. Please treat temari with respect. Have clean hands when touching them, keep them out of direct sunlight, and display or store them in a dust-free area (or dust off gently as needed). If temari get wet, colors may run; do not scrub threads as they may break. If necessary, please contact me to discuss repair or replacement.

If components of my jewelry have broken due to a flaw in the components or in my construction, I will be happy to make repairs at no charge to you (including return shipping), assuming that I still have the same components available. If they are not available, I will contact you to discuss options for the repair. For all other reasons for repair, I still will be happy to do whatever I can, usually for a small fee, and assuming that I have the materials required. Buyer is responsible for cost of repair, shipping, and insurance charges. As for temari, minor thread replacement may be possible depending upon design, location, and availability of thread.
