I love to dye fabric! Hand dyed fabrics have always had a special place in my heart. Even more so now that I dye my own fabric. Hand dyed fabrics inspire and speak to you in a way commercial fabrics sometimes can't.
As a quilter I am highly organized and methodical. I control all of the variables and know exactly how a project is going to turn out before I begin. Dyeing fabric is the complete opposite. After the dye is applied it is up to nature and science to create something magical. And waiting for the dye to set before rinsing it out to see what the end result will look like is the hardest part.
Being a quilter, the quality of fabric is very important to me. I only use quilt shop quality 100% Kona cotton for dyeing. All fabric is pre washed in hot water and dried on a high heat setting to pre shrink. The edges are pinked to reduce fraying.
I use fiber reactive dyes. They produce rich and vibrant colors. After dyeing all fabric is thoroughly rinsed in cold water, then again in hot water multiple times until the water runs clear. The fabric is then machine washed twice with a commercial detergent, dried on a high heat setting and pressed. Even so, I highly recommend washing again before using. Especially is you are putting it next to lighter colored fabric.
The finished fabric has the look of a batik, but handles like a traditional quilters cotton. It sews easily and quilts like a dream. The colors have beautiful texture and depth because of the marbling, shading and blended qualities.
Each piece is made by me in my smoke free home and therefore entirely unique and one of a kind.
All photos have been taken indoors against a white background in a white room lit with daylight bulbs to give the best representation of color and pattern. But please be aware that all monitors are different. If you have any questions regarding the color, please ask before purchasing.

HAND DYED FABRIC
All hand dyed fabric has been created using prewashed and pre-shrunk fabric. After the dying process the fabric has been thoroughly rinsed, washed in hot water with a commercial detergent and dried with a high heat setting and pressed.
Even so, I highly recommend prewashing in hot water.
A business card size label has been attached to the corner of each piece of fabric for identifying purposes. Please remove before washing.
Fabric is cut generously before washing and shrinking. The cut you will receive is at least the size listed, most of the time it will be an inch larger.
All pieces are one of a kind and may contain minor flaws or imperfections.
Turnaround time on custom quilts can vary depending on complexity and will be discussed on an individual basis.
I have made every effort to describe handmade items in detail including color and size. Depending on your viewer, color may appear different. If you have any questions regarding color, please contact me before purchasing the item.
All items have been made with pre-washed fabric to prevent color bleeding. Even so, I cannot guarantee the color fastness of an item. I reccomend using a color catcher when washing the first time.
To aide in the quilting process a Frixion pen may have been used on items to transfer designs and for registration marks. According to the manufacturer, these marks may reappear when exposed to below freezing temperatures for an extended period of time. These marks are easily removed with a hot dry iron if they do reappear.
