Made with 100% Huacaya Alpaca From the Peruvian Andes Hand-spun on a pushka (drop-spindle) Single-ply Un-dyed, natural colour from the alpaca 0.19 USD per gram
SPECS: Jet Black (the alpaca colour "yana" in Quechua) 1 ball of yarn 172 grams 700 yards/pound (approx.) 266 yards or 243 metres (approx.) 0.19 USD per gram
This yarn is produced by Juana Ccarhuani Ccorca and Dorotea Quispe Huanco of the Illariy Ch’aska Women’s Weaving Cooperative in the rural highland Quechua community of Cancha Cancha, in the Sacred Valley of the Cusco province of Peru, located 3950 metres above sea level and only accessible by foot. Visit https://www.mosqoy.org/weaving-communities to learn more about this community or https://www.mosqoy.org/meet-our-weavers to learn about the specific spinner who produced your yarn.
All balls of yarn that Mosqoy Peruvian Textiles sells are approximately 200 grams (ranging from 175-240 grams per ball). The exact weight and yardage of each ball is noted above.
Please note, as with all hand-spun yarns, the yards per pound is approximate. Therefore, please order more than enough for your project to allow for variations in the yarn weight.
Please note that, though all yarns have been cleaned by hand, you may find tiny elements of Pachamama (Mother Earth) throughout your balls of yarn, since they are hand-sheared and hand-spun!
The profit from this sale directly supports the women's cooperative who spun this yarn as well as Mosqoy's charitable programs, working with highland Quechua communities to mitigate the adverse effects of unsustainable tourism and development in the Peruvian Andes while nurturing their threatened Indigenous culture.
