This fleece weighs approximately 7 pounds 12 ounces. It is from Ruth Anne, #222, a purebred ewe who is about 3 years old. It is fairly dense with a nice medium crimp.
Having a lot of fleeces to sell, I haven’t examined this fleece. I'll check it out before I confirm your interest in it and let you know more about it.
First person who emails about it has first dibs. Once you have asked about a fleece, I’ll change the listing to a custom order or deactivate it to give you a chance to consider it carefully and ask questions.
The fleece has not been skirted, and although it is mostly free of manure, it has some VM on the neck and back. The tips are sometimes tender, because we get 100" of rain a year. The handle is excellent and may be suitable for spinning without washing or just rinsed.
Please ask for a custom order for your fleece choices, sending me your address so that I can give you an exact price. I'll quote both UPS and USPS, then make you a custom order. You may decline to order or ask for second dibs if someone else has asked before you.
Two fleeces together ship more reasonably than 2 individual orders.
Raw fleeces have not been skirted before weighing, so the weight is approximate. Weather permitting, I lay them on the skirting table and remove the most offensive parts, giving them a good shake, then reweigh to calculate your shipping. May I suggest that you use your skirtings for mulch, in the garden or even in houseplants, to keep the soil healthy and conserve water.
Romneys have an light oil type of lanolin, compared to the heavy grease of Merinos. Fleeces may have some staining at the tips. Red stains wash out--they're from a local plant that is not even good for dye. The sheep like to eat the seeds as well as wear some. I can skirt ($10) and/or wash ($!5) it for you.
2017 Fleeces were shorn in August. 2016 fleeces are sometimes available also. Buy both to make a large sweater and ask me for a discount.
