FAQs

Sorry, I am not able to accommodate special requests and/or custom orders. Some items are made in one size, others will include size/colour options. Fig Cottage produces assorted goods year round, so be sure to check in often to see what's available!

I follow a general, self-developed guide for sizing hats and mittens. I do my best to ensure that goods match the size guide and I strive to accurately describe the size/dimensions in each listing. However, no two heads (and no two pairs of hands) are the same! Please keep this in mind to ensure that you or your gift recipient get the best possible fit. If you have questions, please reach out to me before placing an order.

Here at Fig Cottage, we're all about the three Rs - reduce, reuse, recycle! Each order comes in a simple wrapping of repurposed materials that I have on hand at the time of packing. Materials may include newsprint, crepe or tissue paper, twine, yarn, ribbon, and so on.

At this time, I only sell and ship within Canada and the USA.

Please note that yarn which has been caked, wound, or knit with is not eligible for return. If the skein is re-sellable (un-used with paper ball band intact) I will accept it for return.

WASHING KNITTED ITEMS: Note: Wool does not require frequent washing. Hand wash only with wool wash or delicates wash, in tepid water. Do not rub, wring or twist the wet wool - it will ruin the fabric! Press or squeeze water out gently. Roll item in a towel and squeeze again to remove excess water. Alternatively, place item in a salad spinner for a couple spins! Lay flat to dry on a clean towel - hanging will stretch the fabric. STORING KNITTED ITEMS: Once dry, items can be stacked, shelved, stored in baskets, etc. To repel moths, store knits with cedar balls/blocks/sachets. Alternative moth repellents: potent herbs or essential oils such as lavender, rosemary, clove, eucalyptus, peppercorn. For more details, Google is a great resource!
