For fabrics made in 100% cotton, we recommend machine washing at 30° Celsius (86° Fahrenheit). We advise against using spin and dryer cycles. Please wash dark colours separately. A useful tip - adding a cup of household vinegar to your final rinse will help prevents felting and helps keep colours bright and vibrant for years to come.
Westfalenstoffe leave their fabrics as untreated as possible making them exceptionally sturdy. Easy-care and wrinkle-resistant treatments are avoided ensuring fabrics maintain their natural stability. As a general rule, synthetic resins are not used. Virtually all Westfalenstoffe fabrics meet the Öko-Tex100 standard and those fabrics marked as organic contain materials from certified organic sources and also meet the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS). As well as being free from harmful substances. Westfalenstoffe fabrics exhibit very little shrinkage and textiles are coloured using reactive dye and printing process. In short this is important the dyes permeate the fibers instead of merely resting on the surface as in pigment printing
This standard signifies that a material has passed tests for harmful substances in every phase of its processing and so presents minimal health risks. This standard go beyond the already strict requirements provided for by law governing use of toxic substances. Use of azoic and other allergenic dyes is prohibited and restrictions also apply to the following: • Formaldehyde is completely prohibited or restricted according to international laws. • Pesticide content of materials must not be higher than that of fruits and vegetables. • Carcinogenic and allergenic dyes are prohibited, meaning that materials must be pH-balanced and contain no questionable pigments. • Clothing for infants must be resistant
Where marked our fabrics are Certified Organic Cultivation which means we can guarantee that there has been: • No use of synthetic fertilizers • No use of chemical-synthetic pesticides • No use of genetically modified organisms • No use of defoliants (hand-harvesting required) • Fair trade and fair compensation • No child or forced labour
To receive GOTS certification, materials such as cotton, new wool, silk, and linen must be at least 70% organic in their fiber composition; the standard also specifies exactly how the fibers may be processed and what substances may be used in doing so. No substances that could harm one’s health or the environment may be used in the production of GOTS-certified textiles, which precludes formaldehyde, azoic dyes, and heavy metals. In addition, manufacturers’ compliance with minimum social standards of fair production, such as the working conditions in cotton fields, is rigorously monitored.
