You are purchasing One 10-13'' tall (pot height is not included) Cupuassu, Brazil Cacao (Theobroma grandiflorum) Tropical Fruit Tree Starter Seedling Plant in 2.5'' square pot.

Related to cacao, the cupuassu is popular in its native Brazil, but little know elsewhere. Unlike cacao, the pulp of the large-fruited cupuassu is used rather than the seeds. Pulp is processed into beverages and desserts. Fruit is highly sought after and production is thus far limited to Brazil where demand greatly exceeds supply.
Leaves are large and much like the cacao tree. Fruits are borne on the trunk and apexes of main branches. Fruit is large, from 5-10" long, 3-5" wide. Not frost hardy. Hardy to 45-50F.
Cupuassu prefers a very humid environment with little temperature variation throughout the year, and mean temperatures around 75F. Trees need lots of water for good growth.
As a cousin of the cacao fruit, cupuassu has a prized tropical flavor combining elements of chocolate, bananas, pear, passion fruit and pineapple. Pulp is used to make a wide variety of beverages, preserves, and desserts. A form of chocolate and cocoa butter can be made from the seeds. Cupuassu fruit has phytonutrient polyphenols (theograndins). It is also heavy with vitamins B1, B2, B3 (Niacin), fatty and amino acids, and at least nine antioxidants (including Vitamins A and C). Being from the cocoa family, Cupuassu also has high flavonoid content. There are many health benefits to Cupuassu, most of which are tied to the fruit’s extremely powerful phytonutrient polyphenols, anti-oxidants, essential nutrients, vitamins.

Small plants need protection from cold, wind, sun, dry-out.
Place all plants in a spot of moderate temperatures (70-80F) in good light but NOT in a direct sun for two weeks until they adjust from shipping in darkness . NO direct sun, NO partial shade - FULL SHADE ONLY! Sun will burn small plants! Allow the plants a week or two to adjust to their new home before transplanting or fertilizing. If you plan to plant them in the garden, gradually increase their exposure to sunlight and outdoor conditions! Temperatures falling below 60F can result in plant damage.
