A curling iron is used to create rolled edges of brims on men's hats which increases the rigidity and strength of an otherwise flat brim. This is our version of the old tools that were used in factories and features a metal iron and a wooden former.
The metal iron is heated, preferably in a gas flame (kitchen hob or portable gas stove is ideal) and then used with the former to roll the brim edge. Anything from a slight curl at the edge to a full roll can be achieved and the diameter of a full roll with this particular tool will be approximately 1/2″. The iron is made form stainless steel and will therefore not rust or tarnish and the former and handle are made from oiled British ash.
