Perfect seams contribute to making perfect garments. The tailor-board will help you achieve that. With the tailor-board you can steam-press virtually every odd shaped detail of a workpiece and yield nice flat and crisp seams.
A tailor-board is used by artisan tailors, dressmakers, sewists and quilters for pressing seams prior to or after stitching. For that purpose the tailor-board is fitted with various rounded and point-shaped profiles. It can be used in 4 different positions (see picture), each exposing one or more particular profiles. (The picture also shows two pressing blocks (tailor's clapper) in the front, they are offered as a separate item).
The tailor-board is made of 24 mm thick solid wood. With 3 mm radius rounded-off sides, a flat is left of 18 mm which is just under twice a 1 cm seam allowance. Thus, "show-through" when pressing open your stitched seams is avoided. Furthermore it is approximately 32 cm long and 15 cm wide as well as high (32 x 15 x 15 cm). Different sizes and shapes can be made on request.
The tailor-board is handmade from European Maple (NL: Esdoorn) which is a local hardwood (medium hardness just a bit softer than beech and oak). Unlike beech and oak, maple wood contains virtually no dyes or pigments and has a nearly-white color. Therefore there is no risk of stains on your precious fabric even when steam pressing. In contrast, with beech and especially with oak, severe stains can occur that probably can not be washed out!
Each tailor-board is made to order. It is assembled with screw joints and glued with a professional water-resistant glue so it can be used for steam-pressing. Every tailor-board is hand-finished to perfection; surfaces are sanded smooth, edges are rounded off and screw heads are hidden. Hence there is no risk of damaging your work pieces.
Since the tailor-boards are made to order it may take a while to ship. Normal shipping time is 1-2 weeks but occasionally it may take an extra week.
