Make a small shipping or gift box from a sheet of 8.5" x 11" chipboard.
I've been teaching myself how to make some of my own shipping supplies and it has been amazing! Being able to make some of your own boxes can take a lot of the stress out packaging items for shipping or gifting. No more searching high and low for a small box--just trace one out, score, trim and fold.
This particular small box is one I use a lot, and what makes it so great is it uses most of just one sheet of 8.5" x 11" chipboard. If you can find chipboard locally that's great. Or just look here on etsy--there are pages and pages of it right here on etsy.
The finished box is sturdy enough for soft goods, or items that aren't easily broken. If you feel like you need the box to be harder, you can reinforce the sides with additional tape, make small braces for the corners from scraps of chipboard, and/or cut a piece of chipboard (or even two!) and put in the bottom of the box.
It only takes a couple minutes to make one, but making a few up in advance is always helpful. If your kids want to help with your business, but you don't quite know what tasks to give them, have them make boxes! This is a kid friendly project and is suitable for children around 8-years old and up.
Each box only costs very little to make once you have your main supplies and tools on hand.
This document shows step-by-step how to make the box and includes a pattern piece (requires taping) to make a reusable template to use as a tracing guide to quickly mark out the box outline.
The PDF file is a paper and ink friendly 6-pages: 4-pages of text and color photo instructions + 2-pages black and white template pieces.
