This water-clear Herkimer Diamond Quartz Crystal was mined by myself at the Ace of Diamonds Mine in Middleville, NY. It has a few key marks with one of them being a small yet super cool triangle. One of the faces on the top half has a key mark/chip combo that I do not believe takes away from the crystal. Around the center there are a few attachment marks, where the crystal met its host stone. Two of these contain what I think are traces of iron (it's normally carbon). The center also contains a small key mark/chip combo. On the bottom where one of the termination points would normally be located is a large key hole with with a couple small chips surrounding it (I tried to capture this in the last photograph). There are a few tiny bubble-like and carbon inclusions. This crystal weighs 50 carats/10 grams. It contains very little (if any) damage to the inside which is rare for a crystal of this size.
I WILL BE OUT OF TOWN FROM DECEMBER 10-13TH. IF PURCHASED I WILL SHIP ON DECEMBER 14TH. SORRY AND THANKS!
I just got into finding these gorgeous crystals in the summer of 2017 and have become absolutely obsessed by their majestic-ness! I even found myself renting an AirBnB for three weeks outside of Herkimer, NY in October 2017 so I could go and smash rocks and dig through the dirt every day to deal with my new obsession. I have been giving them out to friends and family left and right and everybody (even those with no prior connection to gem collecting) seems to be completely enamored with their gifts. My sister convinced me that I should try to share some of my collection with the world by selling them online. She insisted that if I could sell enough, I would have a way to fund my new favorite hobby once the mining season opens back up. Maybe someday it could become more than a hobby! We will have to see.
I have hunted the internet and even some gem shows to find the average prices so that I could try to beat them and offer super reasonable deals for real NY Herkimers. On Etsy, it appears that a solid majority of the listings contain Herkimers from China and Pakistan or the source of the crystals is evaded in the listing (meaning they likely are not from NY). Although the crystals not found in NY are amazing too, many folks (and Wikipedia) believe that the real deal crystals come from the Herkimer area. It might be my new found pride, but I find myself in agreement with these originalists.
To save you from having to read too much more, feel free to message me if you would like any additional information. There is plenty of information available on the internet (such as these crystals were formed approximately 400 million years ago!). I am selling these to the buyer who would like to use these stones for making jewelry, to use in metaphysical or healing ceremonies, or whatever else these crystals can do to improve your well-being. Since I am new to this, I would like to offer you some other Herkimers as a gift for being my first customers. It may not be a lot, but it may be a few half or quarter crystal pieces that I would not be able to sell individually or maybe a few small C grade crystals or something of the sort. When it comes to grading these crystals, it a very subjective process so I will most likely call them jewelry grade (if they are of course) and try my best to give accurate and detailed descriptions and photographs. I will accept refunds if the item is damaged en route, although I am not certain how that process will work yet (I'm new!). I would assume that in order for me not to lose money, that the buyer would pay for return shipping (USPS First Class Package 1-3 days is $3.00 and fine with me). Thank you for being you and all that jazz!
