Item details

This bead is made from a neat fossil material called Turritella Agate. The name is a bit of a misnomer since it was derived from a mis-identification of the species of the fossilized snail. Its actually freshwater snail as opposed to turritella which is a saltwater species. The name stuck though. The material formed in the Green River Formation in Wyoming. These snails lived over 50 million years ago!

This bead has some minor "pitting" or surface flaws noticeable upon close inspection.

This bead measures about: 9/16 x 7/16 in. (1.4 x 1.1 cm) The hole is 3/16 in (5mm)
