A beautiful deep blue, with flashes of silvery purple around the girdle; this is a gorgeous gemstone Precision Cut by Troy Richardson. "Cleanest Iolite I've ever cut."
A beautiful and unique gemstone, the name Iolite comes from the Greek word for Violet. Iolite has strong Pleochroism, which means that different colors can be seen depending on the viewing angle of the stone. This strong pleochroic effect was why Vikings once used Iolite crystals, along with Iceland Spar, for navigation on foggy days using the polarization of light to discover approximately where the sun was located. This is a gem for sailors!
