This folding stool started with a trip to the lumberyard where Jim carefully sorted through the piles to find wood he'd like to work with. He looks for interesting grain patterns or a particular color.
In the shop Jim shaped each section by hand, hand sanded and applied 3 or more coats of shellac to all the stool pieces. Next they were given a final sanding and a finish coat of a mixture of linseed oil and beeswax. Lastly all of the parts were assembled.
Each of these steps is accomplished without the aid of computer controlled cutting machines, so your stool is a one-of-a-kind individual piece of furniture. All stool seats have a slight dip to cushion your fanny just right.
Folding is easy. 1- Lift the outside edges of the seat halves. 2- Bring them out and sideways until the legs move into each other. 3- Gently lower the seat halves to the outside of the stool.
Unfolding is easy too. 1- Reverse the process above by lifting the seat halves out and sideways, allowing the legs to separate and form an x. 2- Slide the seat halves sideways toward each other. We'll soon have a YouTube video demo.
I hope you enjoy using your stool as much as I enjoyed making it.
Oak is medium/ light brown in color.
This stool is 18.25" (45.625cm) tall, about 10.25" (25.625cm) in width, and about 20" (50cm) long. Folded up this stool is 19.5" (48.75cm) tall, 2.75" (6.875cm) deep and 20" (50cm) wide.
Susan places her folded stool right behind the driver's seat when she is traveling to guild or a place to spin. The height fits exactly for an average person's legs to easily work their spinning wheel.
All stools are fairly lightweight but not featherlight. This one is about 15 pounds.
Jim is happy to make a stool shorter or taller to suit your personal needs. Please contact us if you'd like one especially made for you. He will also make them in many other woods, with varying prices.
Review from another of our stools: "I love this handcrafted sturdy stool for spinning! I will be taking it camping with me along with my wheel and fiber. It's the perfect complement to my travel wheel. The leopard pine is unique and beautiful and the workmanship is impeccable." PK
