Jumbo Fused Glass Butterfly. 4.5" wide x 4" tall and 1/4 -3/8" thick coe 90 cast fused glass.
Glass powders and chips are cast in a ceramic mold in my kiln. The entire process takes about 24 hours.
All glass from my studio is fusible coe 90. Glass is heated very slowly to around 1440 degrees Fahrenheit then cooled even more slowly to temper and strengthen the glass to resist breakage. If dropped on a hard surface it will probably break, but would probably be OK falling to the carpeted floor. Parts of the glass that are thin are of course more vulnerable. Fused glass is colorfast and durable.
Fused glass has certain distinctive characteristics. You will notice hundreds of interesting tiny champagne bubbles deep in the glass. As can be seen in photos, the surface on one side is super-shiny and smooth and the side that touched the mold has a less-crisp surface - both sides showcase the beauty and depth of art glass.
