The Mt. Wilson Set features 6 handmade watercolors in half pans and is named for a 14,252 foot mountain peak in the San Miguel Mountains Range of Colorado. Each of the six pans has a tiny magnet on the bottom so the pans can be rearranged as the artist prefers. The colors included in this particular set are:
Crimson (A cool, staining, red) Sun (a single pigment, cool yellow) Prussian Blue (one of the first synthetic pigments, warm blue) (Verona) Green Earth (a beautiful natural green pigment that comes from mines near Verona, Italy) Antica Green Earth (a transparent brownish green that is a staple in my personal palette) Fawn Ochre (a warm natural brown)
All these colors combine to create a wonderful starter set of watercolors. The paints are packaged in a small, vintage typewriter ribbon tin. The tin is 3.5" across and the lid comes off completely and makes for a nice mixing surface. The tin closes easily and securely, making this tiny tin great for travel or as another special collection of paints for your studio.
Ruby Mountain Paint Company specializes in micobatch, artisanal watercolors using pigments sourced from around the world. Our paints are always non-toxic, lovingly hand poured into whole pans, half pans, or bottle caps. These are not commercially made paints squeezed into pans, but carefully made high quality watercolors for all types of artists. Each color is made from pure, artist-grade pigments and our own all natural binder formula, which includes gum arabic, local honey, and a time-honored, clove oil preservative. Each pigment is mulled by hand until it is the proper, luscious consistency. Each pan is poured once, slowly cured, then topped off so that the pans are as full as possible.
I pyrchased these watercolors as a Christmas present for my brother's girlfriend, she loved it! I will have to come back and buy some for myself :)
