36 Gauge (Light): Available in 3 foot width, various lengths and available in all colors. It can be cut with a utility knife or scissors easily. A 3x4 sheet weighs about 3 pounds. The sheet itself is .005 inches thick and is also know as 5 mil.
24 Gauge (Heavy): Available in 3 and 4 feet width, various lengths and available in all colors. It can be cut with hand shears or a commercial metal cutting tool. A 3x4 sheet weighs about 12 pounds. The sheet itself is also known as "16" oz. copper and is used in more demanding applications.
Adherence: Each sheet must be fastened to a wood or MDF substrate using an appropriate adhesive (see Tools & Supplies). Contact Cement or Liquid Nails is generally used. Please consult with us if you have any question about your application.
Top Coat: Depending upon your application a top coat that provides protection may be required for either gauge of copper. Typically a clear lacquer spray or an epoxy coating is used. Generally speaking, if the copper is on a flat surface you need some type of top coat where you expect heavy wear patterns especially for countertops, bar tops and backsplashes.
For items like cabinets, table tops, furniture, range hoods and tile a coat of lacquer will do. If the application gets a bit of traffic you may want 2 coats.
Each sheet is handmade and will have variations in the patina.
