This is a Balearic sling made from jute with leather added to the finger ring for comfort, and to the pouch for durability. I typically make them at the mid range "utility" length of the ancient Balearic warriors, about 50" long (22" retention and release cord to the knot, and a 6" long pouch which I find to be perfect for chicken egg size rocks, tennis balls and everything in between), but custom orders are welcome. The sling includes a woven nylon popper. Each sling is made from 10 strands (20 working strands) of cord which I clean thoroughly of imperfections before construction begins. Each strand is individually opened before being twisted back together as one strand, thus making 20 into 5 solid cords for an authentic, natural look. I start adding material half way down the retention cord for a smooth taper, and remove strands on the release cord in a methodical pattern much like a bullwhip for maximum effective transfer of energy. As the transition point from the retention cord to the pouch is the weakest point of a woven sling, I make mine just as thick on both sides of the pouch for maximum durability (about 3/4"). See the pictures for details. The main weave finally ends in an elegant footrope knot which provides a consistent place to pinch the release cord and make sure the projectile is centered in the pouch first time, every time. The knot is placed so that the sling's retention ring can be worn on the first or middle finger. The remaining strands under the knot taper into the synthetic whip for maximum durability. This can later be removed and rewoven should it ever wear out; with no danger of unraveling the main sling body. The braids are tight and smooth, and I take great care when stitching the leather middle to follow the existing braids to (almost) hide the stitches. Each sling is as perfect as I am capable of producing. I could rush through the process and create something functional in a fraction of the time, but I prefer the beauty and professional look that make me proud to own and produce these slings. When others see me slinging tennis balls, they start by commenting on my cool "toy" only to be blown away by the sling's craftsmanship and elegant beauty. This is way more than scrap leather and cheap packaging twine. This is a robust sling powerful enough to hit with the force of a .44 magnum (F=ma) and sounds like a .22 rifle. It can be used one minute as a deadly hunting weapon, the next as your dog's favorite ball throwing toy, and is even versatile enough to be used safely around children when slinging jumbo marshmallows. If this design isn't the king of all slings, good luck finding it. (See shop profile for information about me and my shop.)
I'm really impressed with the sling. I haven't used a split pouch sling before so I was worried that I might have issues keeping rocks/projectiles in place but it works really well. It works better than my full pouch slings. And even smaller rocks sling well with it.

The sling shipped quickly and arrived just as advertised. Beautiful construction. I've tried making these myself with varying success in function but not nearly as nice as this one. It seems a bit short, but maybe mine are too long. Haven't slung any stones with it yet, but I'm sure it will be awesome!
