Item details

Amblygonite is a gemstone that is less well known than many of its peers. Its name is derived from two Greek roots meaning "blunt angles", an allusion to one of its more common crystal habits. Truly an exotic mineral, amblygonite is a "must have" for any gemstone collector.

This gemstone is rather large and measures 18 x 13 mm and weighs a whopping 9.35 carats. It would truly make a great STATEMENT PIECE.

Because amblygonite has a Moh's number of 5.5-6.0, it is better suited for pendants, earrings and brooches although if set properly in a protective type of setting, it can be used for rings.

There are many qualities attributed to amblygonite. Some believe that this gem creates a calming effect that provides balance in emotions and resolves conflict. Others feel that wearing amblygonite improves creativity and helps inspire new ideas.

Amblygonite is available in various shades of green to green-yellow and even more rarely a blue-green. This stone's characteristics are mainly green but at certain angles one can appreciate small amounts of yellow (see photos 1-4 and 6). Regardless of its shade, no other gemstone class possesses this particular shade. This characteristic along with its extreme rareness and very low availability makes this gemstone an exotic one for sure.

Its clarity is extremely clean and transparent with very low amount of inclusions only visible with a 10x jeweler's loupe. This stone is considered "eye clean".

Fine amblygonite has a very wide range in values depending on the color depthness, clarity, transparency, and its availability. Gemstones greater than one carat will have a much higher value on a PER CARAT basis. For example, if you had three stones each weighing one carat and you compared the cost to a three carat stone, the three carat stone would cost approximately twice to thrice the amount of the three one carat stones combined ON A PER CARAT BASIS. Gemstones range from $20-$50 for a one carat gemstone. Typically, a ten carat stone retails for approximately $200-$500. I have even seen a museum quality 30 carat gemstone retailing for $18,000.00!

My shipping rates are a flat fee of 4.50 for the first item and 0.99 for each additional item in the same order. This covers all the costs of envelopes, packaging material, handling fees and trips to the post office. Unfortunately, the USPS has raised their rates on ALL domestic and international packages by over 35 percent as of Thursday, January 31, 2018. I sincerely apologize for the shipping rate increase but is beyond my control.
If you are an INTERNATIONAL BUYER, please contact me prior to checkout so I can look up the correct postage for your particular country. Sometimes there are issues with the customs agency of your country, so expect that there might possibly be a delay in delivery of your item. Please note, once a package leaves the United States, there is nothing I can really do to find out exactly where your package might be. If there is an issue, please use the customs number I provided with your order and contact your country's customs agency to find out when you may expect to receive your item.
Additionally, for both domestic and international orders, please understand that I cannot be held responsible for incorrectly delivered packages, stolen packages or items lost by the United States post office or your country's postal service. In these cases, I will do my best to work with you to locate your package with the tracking number provided by USPS or in international shipping cases the customs number for your package. This also includes items being returned to me for refunds or exchanges as well.
Most of my jewelry is inexpensive so insurance is not necessary however some more expensive items, ie. emeralds, ruby, tanzanite, morganite and sapphires, & some of the vintage coins must be insured. PLEASE NOTE: Insurance and tracking fees have already been calculated in the shipping costs you see posted for any items requiring insurance. All items with a value over $100 will be insured for both the buyer's and seller's protection.

Additional policies

All items purchased from my shop carry a 30 day warranty. Any item found to be damaged within 30 days of original receipt date will either be replaced (if possible) or a refund given for the full purchase price including shipping costs.
PLEASE NOTE: Items that are deemed to be damaged by improper handling or cleaning on the part of the purchaser are not covered under this warranty.
It is highly advised that you inspect your gemstone or jewelry piece very carefully immediately upon receipt because after the thirty day warranty period expires from the original receipt date, I cannot issue any refunds or exchanges for any purchase of any kind. This is in part due to the large number of attempted scams that force me to strictly adhere to this policy.
I have included some tips and pointers below to aid you in taking better care of your merchandise and specific cleaning techniques to help minimize potential damage occurring to your jewelry or gems.
Many of my gemstone jewelry items can be fragile if not protected from knocks and bumps due to their hardness scores on the Moh's scale. Care must be taken by the buyer to protect against damage especially rings as they are the type of jewelry most susceptible to damage and softer, more brittle gemstones, for example, opals and gemstones with lower Moh's numbers.
Care must also be taken when cleaning certain gemstones. Never use ANY harsh chemicals or ultrasonic cleaning on ANY items purchased from my shop. Using plain mild soap and warm water with an ultra soft toothbrush is the best cleaning method. This will help avoid damage to the gemstones used in creating some of my jewelry items and the gemstones themselves.
If you have any additional questions on how to take care of and protect your specific gemstone or jewelry piece, please do not hesitate to contact me. I would be more than happy to share my knowledge with you.
