This is a versatile drop spindle, capable of spinning a wide variety of yarn weights. I designed and turned the elm whorl of this drop spindle so that most of the weight is at the outer rim. This increases the centrifugal force making for a longer spin time. The shaft is turned from river birch. The hook is hand made from copper.
Since this is a made to order item, the following specs are approximations:
weight: 1.15 oz./ 32.6 g length: 11.25" / 28.5 mm. whorl diameter: 2.5" / 63 mm
All of my spindles are tested by me, my wife, or one of my daughters before shipment. Sometimes it is necessary for me to pin weight the whorl with a small copper pin in order to make it perfectly balanced.
Both the whorl and shaft have been finished with a protective french polish then buffed to a satin sheen with my own beeswax finish, which protects the wood while allowing the natural beauty to shine through.
I use sustainable hardwoods from a local, small, family run mill. Visit them here: http://www.johnsoncreekhardwoods.com/

Absolutely beautiful little spindle made with love, care and attention to detail ...right down to the perfect little copper hook and graining on the wood. So, so beautiful in the hand. John took the time to answer my conversations in depth and was one of the loveliest "paths" I have crossed in a while (thank you for such a friendly transaction :) Lastly, the warm handwritten note from a seller I'd recommend over. Thank you kindly John, your service and your spindle are so very appreciated.

Exquisite craftsmanship! I am learning to spin and feel quite spoiled to be learning on such a beautifully finished piece. John thoughtfully included some roving to get me started. (Thank you, John!) Wonderful seller. Extremely responsive to questions and comments. My spindle was packaged with great care and arrived quickly. Would give a 6 star review if I could! Many thanks!
