Robust, antique, exterior door salvaged from an old home Northeastern Massachusetts. It is made of solid Douglas Fir or pine, and is painted white on both sides. It has 4 triangular windows on top, which form a half circle, and 4 raised panels below. The door is about 100 years old and is quite heavy for it's size--weighs about 60lbs.
One out of the four lites is original, wavy glass, but the other 3 are newer (still old) replacements. The lites are secured with old-fashioned glazier's putty on the exterior side. Although the majority of the putty is intact and the lites are secure, I would suggest re-glazing them prior to installation.
Hardware: The door doesn't have any hardware, however, we have a good selection of hardware to outfit the door (check out our eBay store).
* If you would like any of the hardware holes plugged with solid wood, please email us for a quote.
Condition: The top 2 panels are split only on the exterior side. Raised panels are usually constructed by gluing several pieces of wood together, and since old glue was made from animal hides, it's not as strong or waterproof as modern glue is. The panels are just separating at their glue-points. The panels could either be repaired by fully splitting them, sanding the edges of the gap, adding glue, and then closing the gap, or you could just fill the gaps with wood putty prior to re-painting
Otherwise, the door has the typical nicks and scratches, which are to be expected for a door this old, but nothing serious like breaks, cracks, rot, or warp. The minor cosmetic blemishes will be removed during the finishing process or covered if painted.
The glass is fully intact in good condition with only light scratches.
Refinish/Repaint: We could refinish, repaint, or partially or completely strip the door to prepare it for you to repaint or refinish. See the last photos in this auction as an example of our work. Email us with a small description of what you would like done, and we'll give you a quote.
Swing: The door is currently set up to swing inwardly towards the left. However, we can modify the door to swing outwardly and/or towards the left--email us for a quote.
Modification: We could also modify this door to fit your opening or suite your needs. We could make a frame, trim or add to the height or width, replace glass with mirror or wooden panels, reverse the swing, plug the hardware holes, etc. Email us with a small description of what you would like done, and we'll give you a quote.
