ARTIST'S NOTES ABOUT THE DESIGN:

Celtic Mandala Scottish Field Flowers

I was inspired to create this design after seeing a tooled leather shield at the Culloden Memorial Museum, Scotland in 2001. Scottish shields of the time were all leather wrapped over wood, and usually decoratively tooled in various ways. Brass or silver studs held the leather to the wood and became part of the design.

The Battle of Culloden took place on Culloden Moor, on April 16 1746. It was the final battle of the Scottish Jacobites, and the end of Scottish independence. Modern artisans are making targes (Scottish name for shield) in historical and original designs today, many of which are used in the annual reenactment of the Battle of Culloden Moor.

Everywhere I go I carry a sketch book to record ideas. Some of these ideas inspire designs for rubber stamps (available in this Etsy shop, and in https://www.etsy.com/shop/triskelt, or coloring, or fine art oil paintings. I like it all, and hope you find something here to inspire your creative muse.

The paper on which you print can give you various coloring opportunities. Standard 20 lb computer paper may not provide you with the most enjoyable surface to color. 24 lb is sturdier and better quality, light weight matte card stock (appropriate for commuter printers) is very sturdy and good for all dry media (colored pencil, crayons, markers, pens), and glossy computer paper is especially nice for using markers and retaining the bright colors. If you have the technology and tools to print on canvas or watercolor paper, then you can use wet media such as watercolors or acrylics.

FAQs

My stamps are mass produced for me by Circustamps in California. Red rubber is an old-fashioned material requiring old-fashioned manufacturing methods, yet it is still considered the best, longest lasting material for rubber stamps. I may be able to help you with your graphic and stamping needs by making a custom sized stamp for you at a custom price. I out-source single stamps at a local business rubber stamp manufacturer, who makes high-quality polymer stamps. I’ve written a blog post on custom stamps with lots of info at HighlanderCelticStamps.com Also see my listing for Custom Pet Portraits in the Dog Section. For other personalized needs please convo me and I'd be happy to answer your questions.

I'm happy to ship anywhere in the World, though I am not responsible for VAT or other import taxes and fees you may incur via your local customs office. UK Buyers specifically: Anything worth more than £15 which is imported to the UK from a non-EU country is subject to VAT at 20% of the total order value, plus an additional £8 handling fee. You will likely be required to pay this upon receipt of your package. This hefty tax is imposed by your government. Please take this into consideration when making your purchase. Here's the link to the Royal Mail website for more details: https://www.royalmail.com/sites/default/files/International-customs-charges-leaflet-Jan-2017.pdf

With shipping and fees costs so high, it is helpful to know how to maximize your purchasing power. You can order up to 8 ounces of product for the same shipping charge. This can be as many as 20 unmounted rubber stamps, even more if they are small. You are welcome to convo me with a list of the stamps you are interested in to make sure the package will not exceed 8 ounces. You will still have the added VAT and handling fees, but the overall cost will be minimized per stamp. I refund excess shipping charges after weighing the package. I hope this helps.

For complete info on this and other topics, please visit my blog site at HighlanderCelticStamps.com Mounted stamps - are rubber (or polymer) + cushion + high-quality Eastern Hard Maple wood blocks. They are indexed on top with clear labels. Unmounted stamps - are trimmed rubber ONLY. These do NOT have any cushion or wood blocks of any kind.
Many stamp artists like to mount their own stamps or use a variety of stamping systems.
Some crafters use the stamps for pottery or other media which requires that the rubber be flexible and/or more washable, thus unmounted is more desirable.
