Item details

This pattern was first published in the 1940s or 1950s by Patons in the UK. I have scanned and reproduced it in a larger format, and brightened the pictures.
The pattern gives no sizes, apart from a description of fitting a SMALL DOG. Using their tension details, I can deduce that the starting edge of each coat measures 13 ½ inches (31.75 cm) around as knitted, but one would imagine that this would stretch a little in the manner of most jumpers. The length of the coat is 10 inches (25. cm) before commencing the polo-neck (which adds nearly 3 inches - 7.5 cm long – to the length).
To make this coat a little larger try going up a size of needle or conversely, to make smaller, reducing by a size or two.
The yarn specified is no longer available, but DK double-knitting yarn has not changed over the last sixty years and will still be suitable. US readers should try Sport-weight yarn.
You need 3 oz (ounces) of yarn (84 g), and two old UK No 7 (4.5 mm, US 7) knitting needles.

Please be sure that this pattern is the correct size for your dog and I hope you enjoy the knitting!
