I love decorating glass blocks. They make great gifts for just about any occasion and are easily personalized with vinyl cut designs, stickers, markers, paper flowers, or anything you like. The downside, though, is once it's decorated you can't use reuse the block for another occasion without ruining the current decoration. At least, until now!
After a lot of trial, error, and playing I finally came up with a way to make removable glass block covers. This will make your glass blocks so much more versatile. Change your cover for every season or holiday. Make a baby block for a nursery nightlight then make a new cover as the child gets older and tastes change. Make a monogram block as a wedding gift and then include an extra cover or two for holiday or seasonal changes. They are easy to change and still easy access to changing the lights when needed. And when you want to change them , they fold flat for easy storage. Can it get any better than that?
The tutorial has directions for making covers for 8 in x 8 in, 6 in x 6 in, and 8 in x 3 in blocks. They are easily found at most craft stores. Instructions will show you how to use tissue paper, vellum, glass etch vinyl, clear Contac paper, and even paper napkins. And a surprise material I came across that makes very pretty blocks. I have included lots of pictures to help you along and tips to make the process easy and fun. Just basic craft supplies are needed, nothing fancy. These covers are truly a blank canvas for decorating.
With just a little practice you will be making covers for every season, reason, holiday, and celebration. And then come up with a million ways to decorate them. Come on and play! You'll love them and you'll look like a creative genius!
But that's not all. I have added 2 bonus project tutorials for you. One will show you how to make printed block covers with your favorite black and white or color pictures. Or print a coloring page for your kids or grandkids to color then make it into a block cover. Change it as often as you like. I also have instructions on making a pocketed cover so you can print pictures and just insert them into the pocket. Use the same cover, just change the pictures. How easy is that!
And then to really give your glass blocks a beautiful finished look add a base. easily made with cardstock and really helps to stabilize the blocks. Easy to follow tutorial for bases to fit the 8 x 8 in, 6 x 6 in, and 8 x 3 in glass blocks.
This tutorial is very thorough. So glad I purchased it. Excellent.
