24 strands, approx 36″ long, Hand Painted Threads
Coton a Broder Special #25 and Unpainted DMC 6-strand floss

Whether you are new to needlepoint or a seasoned needleworker looking for something really different to add to your project, Hand Painted Threads is your go-to online thread store. Here you will find truly unique products that will enhance your projects and make them your own.

What are Hand Painted Threads?
I use only the finest color-fast DMC Coton a Broder #25 Special as a base for my colors. Then I hand paint each color with pure pigment acrylics using several different techniques that have developed over the years. I enjoy the added random texture they give to my work, giving all my finished artwork a distinctive tweedy look.

What is Coton a Broder?
DMC Coton a Broder #25 Special is a super long fiber cotton ideal for needlepoint, white work, and cutwork. It is composed of 4 non-divisible strands of long staple cotton, into a soft size thread size 25. The thread is somewhat similar to the DMC Floche, but made of 4 non-divisible strands instead of 5 strands and the skeins are much smaller than the Floche. Made in France.

How do the feel when I stitch?
The hand varies from soft to textured depending on the color. Some colors even have some surface textures that might add additional texture to your finished work emulating the look of a woven piece.
The threads resist knotting better than floss so you are dealing with less tangles as you stitch.

How do I use your threads with my stash?
These threads are ideal for incorporating threads already in your stash. My product number corresponds to the DMC number so that you can easily find threads already in your stash that will blend beautifully with my hand painted threads.
When you mix threads of high contrast you will get a more “tweedy” effect which can be interesting if you are looking for lots of texture. I often mix unpainted floss with my painted Broder threads for a more subtle, uneven modeled look. I also mix colors that are close in values for a really new and interesting color.

I’m hoping that when you work one of my canvasses that you experiment with color combinations that please you. I usually include enough floss to make blending choices that make your finished canvas very personally your own.
Of course, it’s also a great way to attack some of those stray floss colors in your stash! Have fun!
