Very reluctent sale of this beautiful Spinning Jenny. The more I look at it... the more I feel I want to keep her. I think you will agree they are such a tactile and attractive thing of beauty to have on display....People are just drawn to them and they are becoming more and more scarce for collectors to find. I would not be disappointed to never let her go but living in a small House and having nowhere to display her for visitors to see and touch is such a crying shame!
She spins silently and is a real pleasure to behold. I found her in an old Cheshire Cellar covered in dust sheets and I thought it was a lost cause but she was all there... including an old Rope with two Rolls of old Dyed Wool on Wooden Pegs which will be included in the final price. Its a great feeling to rescue such a beautiful thing....
The main Table end Adjuster Works fine after unceasing it. All I had to do was put the drive arm back on the Cog Wheel then simpathetically cleaned her up and gave her a coat of Wax and wow! Main Body and Legs appear to be Oak construction. Spokes and Drive Arm maybe Maple? Some close up Pics show the old Leather pieces used in the original construction which I have bent in the photos as it has such a dark Patina it gives the appearance of Wood. On the whole the Jenny has a lovely natural dark Patina to the Wood. Constructed using just Wooden Pins and Dowels I have found no Nails or Screws in any of the construction apart from the original horizontal straight steel sliding Pins going into the side of the Legs from the cross members at the very base of the Legs which I assume is for minor movement strength and stability. A great decorative piece or with some minor repairs could even be brought back into full use. The Jenny is very stable and can be spun just pressing your Hand on the Treadle also quiet when spun.
