This is a 2-part doll making class: Friday, 23 March 6-9pm and Saturday, 24 March 10am-4pm * if you cannot attend a Friday night, please let Mary know. We will be stuffing the hands and feet only and that can be done for you.
At 45cm and weighing up to 1.3 kilos, this doll does the job of feeling like a new baby, filling the arms and heart with love.
The body is two layers of pre-sewn fabric, creating a very durable doll. The outer velour layer closely matches the skin fabric. Top-quality Swiss cotton tricot is used for the face, hands and feet. A wool felt heart gets sewn over the heart area for applying essential oils. You will have the choice of hair colors when sewing a "sprig" of hair (mohair) under the cap. A pattern for a top and bottoms will be emailed to you separately to sew at home. You will receive a ready-made diaper at the class.
Color choices: fair light brown sold out brown sold out
Eyes: Open or closed
What to bring: sharp scissors, a few needles, straight pins, and 1.5 kilos of *prepared millet or clean beach sand. Measuring tape optional. You can bring preemie clothing if you like! Feet measure about 9cm if you’d like to crochet booties! Limited supply of clothing will be available at the workshop for purchase.
To prepare millet, place in a shallow casserole dish and bake in the lowest setting in your oven for 30 minutes. Cool. Empty into a container.
The workshop is led by Mary Hirsch, a U.S. doll maker with more than 20 years' experience. She has several original designs and makes dolls for people around the world.
I ship priority mail using USPS, which insures packages up to $50. Buyers are urged to purchase additional insurance or a signature requirement to cover and protect their package. I ship to the address that you provide. You will be sent a tracking number so that you can trace its movement from the time it departs Mimi's Designs until it arrives at your door.
For now, I accept PayPal. Tax is applied to all orders from Pennsylvania. Full payment is expected before making a custom order. Once completed, you will be provided a photograph to approve your order. Changes can be made at that time.
Returns & exchanges
If USPS loses or damages your item in transit, it is insured for a value up to $50. Please use your tracking number to file a claim directly with USPS. If USPS shows an item has been delivered but you haven't received it, perhaps it was left with a neighbor. Please speak with your mail carrier as Mimi's Designs is not responsible for items stolen or lost once marked delivered. Because of that, it is strongly advised that you consider purchasing "signature requirement" for $2.50. Your package will not be left at the door if it is delivered when you are not home, as you have to sign for it to take possession.
If you receive a custom order and find that your child doesn't take to it, we apologize but customs are non-refundable. Every opportunity is provided to describe the items as accurately as possible prior to your purchase. Items are made with additional specifications by the buyer. If you don't feel your intention was captured correctly, voice that before your order is shipped. If you receive a custom order and it isn't perfect for your family -- perhaps it is too heavy -- it may be possible to determine a solution.
If there is a quality issue -- stitches have come undone without excessive play, for instance, repairs will be made free of charge. If heavy play caused seams to open, hair to fall off, etc. contact Mimi's Designs for a quote to repair such damage.
Exchanges are possible after a thorough discussion and inspection of the returned item. No refund or exchange will be given for dolls that have been mishandled, are stained, etc.
Time is carved out for each order and customer. This time is precious to a doll maker as each doll is unique - just like your child.
I do make special custom orders, personalize items and on occasion, sell wholesale in quantities. Please ask!
