Growing Milkweed For best results, a 2+ week cool stratification (in fridge not freezer) will coax these sporadic sprouters into action. Place seeds on a paper towel moistened with purified water. Fold the towel over completely covering the seeds then place in a baggie and put in the fridge. Check every 3rd day to make sure mold has not started to grow. If it has prepare another paper towel and transfer the seeds to it placing the paper towel in a NEW baggie and back in the fridge. After stratification, sow indoors in pots fill with seed starter mix 1/8" deep(flat). Water well and place in a warm place with indirect light. Seedlings will emerge in 10-42 days. Keep moist. Gradually accustom young plants to outside conditions (avoid frosts), before planting out into well-drained soil, March-May, 30cm (12") apart. For vines, provide a support structure to climb. Take care not to over water or over fertilize as plants will respond unfavorably.
