This listing is for a knitting PATTERN only, so you can make your own falling leaves scarf, NOT the finished product!
If you like oversized accessories in BOLD colors then this is the scarf for you! The Falling Leaves Scarf is made from individual knitted squares with a leaf motif, which are then crocheted together. The pictured scarf has finished dimensions of 12" x 100", but the design can be adapted to make any size. Simply knit fewer squares for a smaller scarf, or arrange them differently to create a wider shawl.
Materials: For the pictured scarf 11 different yarn colors (~75 yard of each color, worsted weight) were used for the squares, and 150 yards of one contrast color for the borders (975 yards total). I would say you need at least 6 different color squares and one contrasting border color to create the mosaic effect. Exact yardage will depend on desired final dimensions. You will need US size 10 needles and a US size H crochet hook.
Techniques: For this pattern you will need to know basic knit stitches (k, p, yo, k2tog, ssk) as well as single & double crochet stitches and the slip stitch join (used to attach the finished squares). The pattern uses US crochet terms. The leaf pattern is written as well as charted. I would say the pattern requires intermediate skill level because it includes knitting as well as crochet techniques. Aside from that it is a quick and easy project.
NOTE: this pattern also contains instructions for left handed knitters
