Item details

This natural grey Icelandic combed top is ready to be spun or felted.

Icelandic is a dual coated breed with an average staple length of 2"-4" with an outer coat of 4" to upwards of 18", an average micron count of 19-22 (thel) and 27-31 (tog), and is next to skin soft.

Icelandic sheep were brought to Iceland by vikings over a thousand years ago and the breed has been able to develop in isolation ever since. They are a multi purpose being used for meat, milk and fiber. Icelandic is a dual coated breed with a slightly coarser outer tog and the softer shorter thel. Traditional Lopi style yarns are made with both fibers combined and a low twist.
