You will receive one 22 inch strand of blue Prosser African trade beads. They measure from 5 to 6mm across. About 3/4 of the strand is consistantly 6mm and the rest are consistant 5mm. They are old and strung on raffia. There are about 95 beads.
Prosser's beads are named for the English Prosser brothers who developed the cold paste (a ceramic/glass hybrid using clay, flint, feldspar and sand) technique in 1840. A Frenchman, Bapterosses improved the technique in the 1860s. They are made in a hydraulic press, the cold mixture is then dried and fired. One of the distinguishing features is the mould seam around the center of the bead. They were eventually made in Bohemia and arrived in African ports in the late 19th and early 20th century.
Please note that measurements are approximate and variations in color, shape and size may occur. Colors may vary due to individual computers and monitors.
