Inspired by antique quilts, Karla Menaugh and Barbara Brackman made a three-block panel in fusible wool on cotton applique. General George Washington and his high-stepping horse Prescott are stitched into a patriotic design. We’ve digitized the pattern that makes good use of a scrapbag of wool pieces.

The pattern has a lot of small pieces so it’s not for beginners but if you are looking to learn fusible applique you get three opportunities to perfect your stitching.
You can also use cotton and conventional applique methods like the mid-19th century quilts.
