The "Dervish" - a supported spindle in Dymondwood and Brush Box - mid weight, titanium tipped
This spindle is a stock item and you will receive an item similar to the one in these photos. Made by Jpry Freyee and Malcolm Fielding in the workshops of The SpindleShop, Queensland, Australia.
This original design for a a small support spindle has a thin straight shaft and a small whorl at the base. The spindle shaft is made from Dymondwood (TM), this is a composite material made from dyed wood veneers laminated and glued together under great pressure with a resin. Dymondwood is often used for fibre tools and is particularly ideal for supported spindles as the material is very hard wearing and doesn't warp.
The support tip has a carefully shaped titanium point for long spins and is made for extremely long life life and low friction.
The whorl is turned from an attractive piece of Brush Box from Queensland. A small concealed pin in the side perfects the balance.
The spindle is finished to a smooth surface, polished with a french polish and then a final gloss of carnauba wax for a long lasting shine and protection.
Your spindle is checked for quality and spin before despatch and comes with tip protectors, is packed with some Tasmanian Corriedale roving, and a signed tag with the woods used listed and date of making.
This spindle style has a remarkably fast spin. good duration and excellent balance due to the low centre of gravity and the placing of the largest whorl diameter low on the shaftl. This makes it a very stable spindle, perfect for a beginner and it will make an experienced spinner happy too.
Dimensions - spindle length overall 240mm, (9.8 in), weight 37 grams (1.36 oz approx). All my spindles are tested before despatch.

Returns & exchanges
Cancellations - please consider carefully when you order as I do not accept cancellation requests unless there are exceptional circumstances. An order cancellation involves quite a bit of time as the original order has to be removed from our database, after being entered and customer records created, refunds arranged and we have to correspond with Etsy about it. The goods involved are also then unavailable to buyers, for up to a week after we send a cancellation request to Etsy. In the event that we agree to a cancellation, we may then then make a cancellation charge of $10 US or 10% of the order value whichever is greater to cover our losses in administration time. In law in most countries a paid order is a contract between both parties, Etsy.com policy is that cancellations are at the sole discretion of the supplier.
I will replace goods at my cost (or refund item costs) that are found to be faulty in manufacture for up to six months from sale. Faulty items must normally be returned to me. Damage caused by inappropiate use or fair wear and tear is not covered by my warranty. The buyer is responsible for the cost of returning items to me, replacements will be shipped free of charge.
I can quote to repair items that have been damaged by the owner or accidentally. Please contact me for details.
Currently I am unable to take custom orders, sorry. You can ask for a copy of items that were previously sold by me on Etsy and sometimes (not always) I will be able to make the items and sell them as reserved items on Etsy. This business is based at Crystal Waters Ecovillage in Queensland Australia. I am unable to take personal callers at my premises or home. You can also find my products by a quick Google search for the Spindleshop.
