Airy and delicate, this Victorian photo frame is both decorative and useful.
The unmarked frame is composed of segments of pressed metal. The leafy and floral scroll segments are welded together and are also welded to an oval frame band. The frame is topped with an ornate medallion with a small blank cartouche.
The easel back is sturdy and holds the frame up nicely. The frame back fits into the oval frame band holding the original glass and photo in place. The back removes easily to change the photograph.
A portrait photograph of a beautiful young girl in her summer whites and straw hat is mounted in the frame.
The piece is in very good condition given its age with no bends, breaks or repairs to the metal. All welds are firmly attached. I am unsure of the base metal, but the piece displays a mellowed patina of black, grey, silver and in spots, gold. I have not attempted to clean or polish the metal.
The frame measures 7" high by 5 1/2" wide at the widest part by 5/8" deep. The oval picture opening measures 5 1/16" high by 3 3/4" wide.
