Preform prices are set so that once you purchase one, the rest ride along for free. Larger lots of stones will incur a little extra shipping charge to account for the increased weight.
Preform Cabochons are made by me, having selected the stone, cut out the pattern on a saw, then shaped on a grinder. As they are preforms, they are not perfect and will require you to finish them up. They are not domed or polished by me. Some can be used as is.
Preform Cabs are an economical way to pick up nice stones at a good price where I have done most of the work for you. Still, with any stone, there are risks of hidden cracks and fractures. I try to spot them out and not list the stone or note the issue...but some can still get by. I try to keep the cost versus risk manageable in case a rock breaks up on you.
Photos under bright white light tend to show a stone, especially wet, at it's best. Dry stones are duller.
For overseas customers, there is no free shipping. Some countries have been set up for what appears to be free shipping, but that is for existing customers in those countries to purchase stones over time, then pay postage later once they have completed their order.
I do ship internationally. Let me know what you want and your location and I will get back to you as soon as possible and list a shipping price for that item(s) to your destination.
There is no free shipping domestically either, unless the listing specifically states so. If an item is mistakenly listed without a shipping price, you will be asked to pay shipping or the order cancelled.
The shop has become extremely popular and my order list grows very long very quickly. Orders can quickly get buried deep and you may be out of sight and out of mind. So I apologize ahead of time for any delays. The best way to get my attention and get your order mailed out to you if there is a delay is to send me a message...what about me, what about my order, send me my order...I will respond quickly.
For domestic orders, items are typically shipped by the US Post Office as it is usually the most cost-effective. First Class and Priority mail for lighter items, Parcel Select for heavier items.Shipping is usually next day unless I am away on a buying trip. I take care with packaging to ensure the item gets to you undamaged. Lower cost, non-breakable items typically are not insured. More expensive items and breakables are insured. Customers must advise if they want an upgrade in the timeliness of shipping, extra insurance, confirmation, etc., this adding to costs. Customers should let me know if they have some preference with how an item is packed.
MojaveJimTradingPost accepts a wide variety of payments including echecks and US Post Office money orders. If for some reason you can only pay by personal check you will have to wait the full extent of time for the check to clear, this delaying any shipping of the item. If the money order or check has not been received the item will be placed back for sale. International customers are responsible for any customs or duty fees they may incur. A sale may be canceled just up to be point of Shipping.
Returns & exchanges
If your item is insured and breaks or is lost, contact me immediately so I can submit a claim to insurance. You have two weeks upon receipt of package to do so or you will be out of luck.
If you have concerns, be safe, take the safe route, and ask for insurance on any item shipped to you (broken rocks are not covered by insurance unfortunately.
I have had years of experience shipping items, so have confidence it will arrive to you safe and sound. Otherwise, damages and losses will be handled on a case-by-case basis. Refunds and exchanges will be handled on a case-by-case basis. For returned items, the customer will be responsible for the original shipping cost and return shipping.
As for rocks, I try my best to select the best material possible. There are thousands of rocks I deal with and some get through with issues. Rocks also change over time after cutting and washing. Long after a freshly cut rock has been listed it may continue to dry, making fractures more apparent. Water may even continue dissolving minerals in fractures over time leading to a weakening of the stone.
Just remember, they are rocks and relatively inexpensive. If a truly bad one gets through, let me know in a timely manner and I will try to take care of you best I can.
Finally, the best way to get on my bad side is to be poorly behaved and just post a low rating and complain without contacting me first to take care of you. For such mean people I develop as much warmth for them as a rattlesnake. I may be inclined to write a terse message back to them and not even refund their purchase out of spite. If you do no take advantage of the friendly method first, things may not go smoothly.
For you Californians, MojaveJimTradingPost turns back the clock, just like the items I sell, on the state sales tax. I remember way back when, in the 1970s, when the state sales tax was 5%. So that's what you'll pay and I'll cover the rest.
