These Stones' Provenance
This turquoise formed in ancient seafloor shale at what is now known as the Dyer Blue mine. The Dyer Blue mine is a small turquoise mine located near the town of Dyer, in Esmeralda County, Nevada. Once known as the Lovely mine in the 1970's due to its lovely blue color, this mine was worked sporadically into the early 1980's. After almost three decades of lying idle, the Dyer Blue mine is once again producing limited quantities of dark blue to greenish blue turquoise with stunning reddish brown spiderweb and patterned matrix, as well as pure blue and green-blue Persian-type gem turquoise.
More about Turquoise
Turquoise is a very special gem…it is a stone of life! Two of its main components, phosphorous (much of which comes from ancient bone) and water are critical ingredients of life. Oxygen is also a key element, oxidizing the copper to give turquoise its beautiful colors. Turquoise is truly a gem dependent on a life-giving planet…a rarity, not just here on Earth, but throughout the Universe! Since the time of the ancients turquoise has been revered as a protector and a symbol of sky and water.
Because of its unique composition, each locality where turquoise is found imparts its own character on the stone. Each locality also has its own individual history. Many of our mines were worked for turquoise many decades ago, and have since become classic turquoise localities. We are excited to have opportunity to carry this history forward into the next generation. Some are new localities we have discovered, new classics in the making!
We hope you will find these stones as inspiring as we do!
