We are glad to present you one of the new products of our family woodworking shop.
This ergonomic crochet hook is recently hand turned of two domestic Ukrainian woods in a premium design. The wooden hook and beads are turned and carved of Robinia (Robínia pseudoacácia) - people used to call it White Acacia or Black Locust, it's very multi-colored and this is the darkest shade of brown in this item. The ergonomic handle between them is made of bi-colored Apple wood ( Malus domestica).
The crochet hook on the photo is 6,1" long (15,5 cm) and 0,83" ( 21 mm) in diameter, size J = 6 mm. Made in a single copy.
"Color of Black Locust wood can range from a pale greenish-yellow to a darker brown. Tends to darken to a russet brown with age. Grain is usually straight, with a medium texture. Black Locust is a very hard and strong wood, competing with Hickory (Carya genus) as the strongest and stiffest domestic timber: but with more stability and rot resistance. Although it shares a similar common name with Honey Locust, the two aren’t in the same genus, (Robinia and Gleditsia, respectively). Black Locust tends to be slightly heavier, harder, and with more of a green or yellow tinge, while Honey Locust tends to have a warmer orange or red tint." (from wood-database.com)
"Heartwood of Apple can vary from a light reddish or grayish brown to a deeper red/brown. The grain of Apple is sometimes seen with streaks of darker and lighter bands of color, similar to Olive. Sapwood is a pale cream color. Grain is straight (though on some sections of the tree it can also be wild). With a very fine, uniform texture, closely resembling Cherry. Apple can be somewhat difficult to work due to its high density. Likely to be rather expensive, and is usually meant for only small projects and specialized applications." (from wood-database.com)
We make ergonomic crochet hooks. An ‘ergonomic’ crochet hook is a hook that is designed to alleviate pain that occurs while crocheting. Most ergonomic hooks have an enlarged handle that can be more comfortable to hold, especially for a long time. We haven’t found much information on exactly why a larger handle alleviates wrist pain while crocheting, but there is much evidence that these types of hooks work. If you’re experiencing tendinitis, arthritis or any other condition that makes crocheting painful… there’s a chance that using an ergonomic hook will provide relief.

Our family workshop produces custom ergonomic crochet hooks from natural wood of various kinds - domestic Ukrainian and exotic - such as Apple-tree wood, Sweet cherry wood, Beech wood, Merbau, Apricot, Bog Oak, Oak, Ash wood, Smoke Tree, Robinia, Hornbeam, Silverberry (Wild Olive), Honey Locust, Cherry, Plum and other varieties. All materials are solid, natural and ecologically safe, woods have fine grain and high density, they are perfectly polished, items are sanded for a mirror finish and sealed with safe gloss or matt varnish or with a special and natural OSMO oil.
Our main ally and inspirer is nature itself, because it creates such a variety of colors and textures, every single piece - with its own pattern, which reveals itself to us only in the process of turning it. That is why we emphasize that each crochet hook is made in a single copy and we can repeat its shape, but the color and pattern of wood can differ - it is created by nature itself, we only reveal it. Hope for your understanding.
We turn crochet hooks of various shapes, and, unfortunately, there is no way they can somehow be systematized into the order table in this listing. The basic shapes are shown in the photo: straight and smooth hooks, in the form of an hourglass, with one or more balls, "gothic" etc. When ordering, please write in the note what kind of shape you like most, and also specify the type of wood and the size of the hook.
Other custom forms and designs are available too. Just write us, describing the comfortable form, desired wood and the size - and we'll start working at your new crochet hook. You can also send us the picture or the link, it will help us to understand and the idea quicker.
For crochet hooks of the smallest size - 4 and 4.5 mm, we recommend choosing hornbeam wood- it is very hard, smooth, perfectly polished and slightly porous, looks like ivory - both in tone and in smoothness and gloss. We make wooden hooks ranging in size from G to Q (starting from 4 mm and bigger). Smaller sizes are also possible, in a combined style. We use metal (aluminum) tips to get smaller sizes, which are difficult or impossible to do in wood. We can insert both aluminum and steel hooks into a handle to your choice.
More porous woods - Bog oak, Honey locust, Pear, Apple-tree - are better to use for turning crochet hooks in the size from 7 mm and more.
Robinia wood (Black locust, Acacia) has a variety of shades - from light beige and greenish to reddish-brown and the color of dark chocolate, so please indicate in the order exactly which tone you choose.
If you don't find your country in the list of selected countries - don't worry, we ship worldwide. Please, get in touch with us before making an order and we'll inform you concerning the correct shipping price. Thank you for understanding!)
